Hello! I'm a third-year student at the University of San Diego, pursuing a B.S./B.A. in Electrical Engineering and a BS in Physics with a minor in Mathematics. Ended up in the classic pipeline of being interested in space and making trinkets as a kid, and now I'm trying to see where this passion can take me in the world. I started a little late, but in high school, I took an engineering course, and it was the most fun I've ever had in a class. It was incredible to have creative freedom without being bottlenecked by my limited art talents. I've always enjoyed the grandeur of physics with the reality of engineering, so taking abstract problems and making them tangible is really what drew me into the field.
Having started working with CAD at 15, I've always enjoyed the physicality of hardware engineering and hands-on design. At the same time, I’m fascinated by the theoretical and cutting-edge science that powers the technologies built for these disciplines. Outside of class, I've probably spent far too many hours watching videos about particle physics, cosmology, and anything that pushes the limits of our understanding of the universe.
To talk about my actual professional experience, I've worked with the Quantum Hydrodynamics Lab with Dr. Maren Mossman and Dr. Sean Mossman, where we studied Bose-Einstein condensates to study quantum mechanical effects such as superfluidity, quantum turbulence, and superposition states. The bulk of my work is in data analysis, but I've also contributed to certain laser systems such as the 3D MOT and tapered amplifier. I've also been doing machine learning data analysis with Dr. Moghadam, analyzing wearable device inputs to assess stress and applying it in a classroom setting.
I've been having a great time engaging with my university's activities. I've been working in USD's maker space, spending more time with students on actual projects using 3D printers and laser cutters. I've had the opportunity to tutor many lower classmen with Knack and Thinkist, and have been active in my fraternity Theta Tau, along with IEEE and SPS.
I'm hoping to pursue a physics or engineering PHD, wherever the wind takes me. But while my doors are flexible, I'm really hoping to pursue something in quantum computing, aerospace, or fusion development. The work I've had in physics has been spectacular, and the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge physics research has only reinforced that this is the kind of work I want to spend my career doing.
